Why are passengers under 15 years old not allowed to sit in an emergency exit row?
A certain level of physical strength and practical ability is required in order to successfully
execute the directions of flight attendants in an emergency, including opening the emergency exit door manually.
the PASSENGERS WHO ARE ALLOWED to sit in an emergency exit row seat are:
at least 15 years;
capable of understand and carrying out instructions;
capable of verbally conveying information received from the flight crew to other passengers;
able to read, understand and give instructions in English;
not travelling with someone that needs their assistance in case of an emergency;
not suffering from any permanent or temporary impairment
not travelling with a service dog;
capable of checking outside conditions and following cabin crew commands;
capable of reaching, opening, lifting and throwing out an exit door in an emergency that weighs up to 27kg (60lbs) since emergency doors are often heavy and awkward to lift, push, pull and maneuver when opening. ;
willing to assist in the unlikely event of an emergency;
Since passengers seated in an exit row must be able and willing to assist the crew during an evacuation of the aircraft, civil aviation boards and national governments set specific requirements for passengers seated in an exit row. While exact requirements vary by country and airline, frequently exit row passengers must:
* Be of a certain minimum age, ranging from 12 to 18 depending on the airline's policies and/or local law.
* Not be traveling with anyone requiring special assistance in an emergency (such as an infant or person with a disability), or an animal (including service animals)
* Have no physical or mental impairment that would hinder quickly reaching and operating the emergency exit.
* Speak and read the national language of the airline's home country (e.g. English on Qantas or German on Lufthansa, etc.)
* Not use a seatbelt extension.
* Be
able to lift 27 kg/60 lb (for window exits)
Requirements to travel on the extra legroom seats:
passengers must have 18 years old
to be healthy, without medical issues
to agree to help the crew in case of emergency
to understand the safety procedures presented by the crew during the safety demo
t
o be able to open the emergency exit in case of necessity or if a flight attendant is not able to do so
to know and understand English because all the emergency procedures are comnunicated in English, the international language of aviation
