Georgian Airways started to sell tickets from Moscow to the European Union countries with connections at Tbilisi Airport.
Now Russians can book tickets from Moscow to Paris and Vienna. In addition, Georgian Airways plans to propose flights to Milan, Larnaca, and Thessaloniki soon.
The connection time in Tbilisi on the way to the EU is 1 hour. However, the connections are not so comfortable on the way back to Russia. Passengers should wait 4 h 50 min in Tbilisi on the way from Paris to Moscow and 7 h 40 min on the way from Vienna to Moscow.
Georgian Airways is the only Georgian airline approved to fly to Russia after president Vladimir Putin lifted the ban on direct flights between Russia and Georgia on 10 May.
It could be a golden age for Georgian Airways as the struggling airline seeks additional ways to get money.
The EU sanctions banned all flights between the EU countries and Russia. Since there is a limited number of connecting flights from Russia to Europe, the airlines could sell more expensive tickets.
For example, Georgian Airways sells one-way tickets for $626 on the Moscow-Tbilisi-Paris route and for $606 on the Moscow-Tbilisi-Vienna route. The alternate routes with adequate flight time propose only Turkish Airlines via Istanbul and Air Serbia via Belgrade.
