Austrian Airlines revealed plans to renew the whole long-range fleet in 5 years.
The company will replace the old Boeing 777 and Boeing 767 with 10 new generation Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. Now Austrian Airlines’ fleet consists of 6 Boeing 777 and 3 Boeing 767. These planes were produced between 1997 and 2007.
Boeing 787-9 will help Austrian Airlines to reduce costs. This plane consumes 2,5 liters of fuel per passenger for every 100 kilometers of the flight. It is up to 20% less if compare with the old Boeing 767.
The first Boeing 787-9 will land in Vienna at the beginning of 2024. It takes several months to prepare the airliner for the scheduled flights. The first passengers fly on the Austrian Boeing 787-9 during the summer flight schedule 2024.
Austrian Airlines plan to receive nine additional Dreamliners by 2028. It means in 5 years the company will fly only one aircraft type on long-range routes.
„With the ‘Dreamliner’ Austrian Airlines is taking off to a new era of aircraft and is setting course for growth. The fleet induction of ten Boeing 787-9 in the coming five years shows that we are fit for investments and the future”, says Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann.
Austrian Airlines will receive Dreamliners as part of the Lufthansa Group’s existing orders.
