American Airlines has launched ticket sales for long-haul flights featuring its new Flagship Suite business class seats. These fully private suites come with sliding doors and seats that convert into lie-flat beds.
For now, the new product is available on two Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Starting June 5, American Airlines will operate these planes on routes from Chicago to Los Angeles and London, followed by flights from Philadelphia to London and Zurich.
Each new Boeing 787-9 is equipped with 51 Flagship Suites. “Every aspect of our new 787-9 is designed to feel premium in nature,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “Whether flying for business or pleasure, having the opportunity to explore other parts of the world should be an exciting and memorable experience that begins the moment you book your flight, long before you reach your final destination”.

In addition to onboard suites, American Airlines customers flying in a Flagship Suite can expect special service both on the ground and in the air. This includes priority check-in, security, and boarding, access to business lounges, premium in-flight dining with fine wines, luxury amenity kits, and premium bedding.
By 2029, American Airlines plans to expand its fleet with 30 new Boeing 787-9 aircraft. This will significantly enhance its premium offering, increasing the number of business and premium economy seats across its network by 50%.
Private suites with sliding doors have become the new standard in business class and are gradually being adopted by major airlines around the world. Two decades ago, lie-flat seats became the benchmark for business class comfort.
