Not cheap: Air New Zealand unveils price for sleeping pods in planes

Air New Zealand unveils prices for its world-first bunk beds in planes. The new service called Skynest will be introduced on long-haul flights in 2024 for economy passengers.

“We’re still working through the exact details of how the booking process will work, and we have yet to determine the price. At this stage are looking at around $400 to $600 for the 4-hour period”, says Air New Zealand Chief Customer and Sales Officer Leanne Geraghty

The price for the 4-hour session in the Skynest includes a full-size pillow, sheets, blanket, and ear plugs. Each sleeping pod will include a separate reading light, personal device USB outlet, ventilation outlet, and lighting designed for rest.

The passengers will be able to book only one 4-hour session in the Skynest during the flight. This decision provides the opportunity for more economy passengers to lie flat and rest during long flights.

The first Air New Zealand planes with Skynest will fly in September 2024 on popular long-haul Auckland – Chicago and Auckland – New York routes. The flight time for these routes is 15 and 16 hours respectively.
